Meta Platforms broke ground on a $10 billion artificial intelligence data center campus in Shreveport, Louisiana, which the company says will be the largest AI infrastructure investment in American history when completed in 2028. The facility spans 5.9 million square feet across a 3,000-acre site.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry attended the groundbreaking ceremony and called the project a generational economic victory for the state, estimating it will create over 5,000 permanent jobs and 20,000 construction jobs. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the facility will run entirely on renewable energy sourced through new solar and wind power agreements in Texas and the Gulf Coast region.

The investment is part of Meta's broader plan to spend over $65 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026 alone. The campus will house next-generation AI models for Meta's family of apps including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
