Google DeepMind unveiled Gemini Ultra 3, its most capable AI model to date, at a special event at its London headquarters. The model demonstrates the ability to make real scientific discoveries in protein structure prediction, materials science, and drug development, generating novel hypotheses that have been experimentally verified by partner research institutions.
In a demonstration, Gemini Ultra 3 identified three previously unknown crystal structures with potential applications in solid-state batteries for electric vehicles, cutting the typical discovery timeline from years to days. Google CEO Sundar Pichai called it the most important product launch in the company's history.
The model is already being deployed in Google's Search, Gmail, and Google Workspace products, with a developer API launching for enterprises next month. Analysts estimate the AI model market will be worth over $1 trillion annually by 2030, with Google, Microsoft, and Anthropic competing for enterprise dominance.
